I created this series to celebrate women supporting women. That is evident with the quotes embedded in the art.
Each painting starts with a layer of newspaper. This represents all the words around us. The negative thoughts you have or the negative comments from around you. Most of this layer is covered up to make room for something better. Some of it still pokes through, symbolic of when you are working on reframing thoughts; those thoughts still pop up every now and then.
The bold portraits show the strength we have as women. In contrast, the background is in pastel for our softer side. We are multidimensional, and all sides should be celebrated.
Gold leaf is woven throughout the work as a reminder: We are worthy of being seen, valued, and treated like the queens we are.
I imagine these pieces living in the spaces where your day begins.
Where you get ready in the morning. Where you sit down to do your work. A place where you can look up and remember who you are and the kind of woman you choose to be.
